More on the Swiss Cottage

The exterior view of the cottage is well known and appears in many guide books about Ireland. The interior, with its exclusive hand-painted wallpaper and fine furniture, is less well known so we have included some internal photos here.

From the walk along the Suir, or from the Ardfinnan road route, the cottage is reached via a bridge over the river and through an underground tunnel. The kitchen and wine cellar were hidden underground and a hidden door in the hall leads down to them. The Butler family used the cottage for some time to themselves and for 'roughing it' a little with al-fresco picnics.
